Design Your World Wins WE Local Award for Best Outreach Event!

Dallas SWE’s Design Your World STEM Conference for Girls has been awarded the WE Local Outreach Award for Best Outreach Event! This award recognizes a group who plans and carries out high quality outreach events that inspire young women to see engineering as a force for good. This prestigious recognition is awarded based on originality, impact, and sustainability of the event. Dallas SWE is honored to have received this distinction yet again for our signature outreach event!

Design Your World – STEM Conference for Girls (DYW) is Dallas SWE’s signature outreach event. Each year, DYW is held biannually in the fall and spring in partnership with local independent school districts, collegiate SWE sections, and generous sponsors. The fall event of FY18 impacted a total of 120 girls in 6th through 8th grades, and the spring event impacted 27 girls in 8th through 12th grades. Girls attending DYW participated in up to eight hands-on, age-appropriate engineering activities, which were all led by Dallas SWE members. The event also included two Parent and Educator Forums which impacted over 30 adults. DYW was a success thanks to the support from over 150 Dallas SWE volunteers and several corporate sponsors. The impact DYW has made on girls, their parents, and the community are strong motivators for Dallas SWE to continue managing this successful event. Dallas SWE is proud to have consistently put on this quality outreach event for girls and adults alike in the greater Dallas area.

Congratulations to our hardworking members, volunteers, and officers for earning this honor for our section!

Be on the lookout for upcoming news about future outreach events!
